Line Fire Update: 172 Acres Burned Since September 5th

Firefighters Make Progress on Containment

The Line Fire, which ignited on September 5th, has burned approximately 172 acres in Coconino County, Arizona.

According to the Coconino National Forest, the fire is now 25% contained, up from 10% on Tuesday. Firefighters have made significant progress in constructing fire lines around the perimeter of the blaze, and they are working to extinguish hot spots within the containment area.

Evacuations Lifted, Residents Return Home

Evacuations that were in place for residents in the Timberline and Fort Valley communities have been lifted, and residents have been allowed to return home.

However, the Coconino National Forest remains closed to the public, including the popular Elden Lookout Trail. Firefighters are still working to secure the area and extinguish any remaining embers.

Cause of Fire Under Investigation

The cause of the Line Fire is still under investigation by the Forest Service. However, officials believe that the fire may have been human-caused.

The Forest Service is urging the public to be cautious when recreating in fire-prone areas and to follow all fire restrictions. Campfires are currently prohibited in the Coconino National Forest.

Air Quality Concerns

Smoke from the Line Fire has impacted air quality in the surrounding area. The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) is monitoring air quality and has issued an air quality advisory for the following areas:

  • Flagstaff
  • Sedona
  • Cottonwood
  • Camp Verde

ADEQ recommends that people in these areas limit their outdoor activities and keep windows and doors closed.
