Early Life and Military Career
Chelsea Manning, born Bradley Edward Manning on December 17, 1987, is an American activist and whistleblower. She served as a United States Army intelligence analyst before providing classified military and diplomatic records to the website WikiLeaks in 2010.
WikiLeaks Leak
While deployed in Iraq, Manning leaked hundreds of thousands of documents containing sensitive information about military operations and foreign relations. The leak, one of the largest in US history, sparked international debate about transparency and government secrecy.
Conviction and Imprisonment
Manning was arrested in 2010 and charged with espionage, computer fraud, and other offenses. In 2013, she was found guilty and sentenced to 35 years in prison. However, former President Barack Obama commuted her sentence in 2017.
